Christian Benitez 2013Born Christian Rogelio Benítez Betancourt in Quito Ecuador, Chucho who’s nick name was formed once he began playing soccer has died at the age of 17. His net worth had reached over $15 million from contraccts and salary agreements with different football (soccer) clubs including El Nacional and most recently El Jaish. He was born July 29, 2013 and died on his birthday from a cardiac arrest. The 27-year-old’s sad death is a huge shock, and has come about after complications relating to appendicitis, according to his father-in-law. The disease then became peritonitis before leading to respiratory arrest. Chucho will be survived by his wife Liseth and their twins who were born in 2009. The son of Ermen Benitez, one of Ecuador’s all-time leading goalscorers, Benitez left Santos Laguna for Club America, another Mexican side, in 2011.

He also played at the 2006 World Cup for his country, picking up 58 caps in his career.

His youth career began playing for El Nacional an Ecuadorian sports club from Quito, known best for their professional football team. The team currently plays in the Serie A, the top-flight football league in the country. The Qataris snatched up the Ecuadorian with a $15 million offer to America, which also became the top sale a Mexican club has ever executed. Benitez’s contract was undisclosed, but it is said to be around the $5 million a year mark.
